The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has claimed that US President Donald Trump has played a decisive role in ending the India-Pakistan wars. Trump has repeatedly claimed to have mediated a truce between the two countries after tensions rose after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The white house press secretary told reporters, “He has ended wars, like India and Pakistan. He continues to work aggressively to end the war in Russia and Ukraine. He completely obliterated Iran’s nuclear sites. He has continued to hopefully negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, to end that conflict and release all of the hostages."
Just a few days earlier, Trump had claimed that five jets were downed in the India-Pakistan conflict, but he did not say which country was at the receiving end of it. Trump had said, “We stopped a lot of wars. And these were serious, India and Pakistan, that were going on. Planes were being shot out of there. I think five jets were shot down, actually. These are two serious nuclear countries, and they were hitting each other."
Trump has also claimed that it was the trade deal that ended the conflict, saying, “India and Pakistan were going at it, and they were back and forth, and it was getting bigger and bigger, and we got it solved through trade. We said, you guys want to make a trade deal. We're not making a trade deal if you're going to be throwing around weapons, and maybe nuclear weapons, both very powerful nuclear states."
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear to Trump that India had never accepted mediation and that it would not accept any over the phone.
Despite India’s refusal to accept, Trump has repeated his claims on many occasions.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has thanked Trump for his intervention and even nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize.
On May 7, India launched missile strikes on Pakistan, which was codenamed Operation Sindoor. The attack was made in retaliation for the Pahalgam attacks, which took place in April and claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In the four-day conflict, India had shot down several Pakistan airbases, after which an agreement was reached.
