PM Modi reacts as Jagdeep Dhankhar quits as Vice President, wishes him good health
New Delhi: A day after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged his contributions and wished him good health. PM Modi took to X (formally Twitter) and wrote, “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health”.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on Monday evening from his post citing medical reasons, triggering speculations in political circles. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said he was stepping down with immediate effect to “prioritise health care”.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, 74 years of age assumed office in August 2022 and his tenure expected to exhaust by August 2027 as expressed the same by his previous statements stating that he do not wish to retire at least not before August 2027, at the end of his tenure. That was ten days before his unexpected stepping down as the VP of India.
Why did Dhankar resign?
The resignation came on the first day of the Monsoon session of the parliament with the cause of prioritising health and adhere to medical advice. Though his resignation has triggered speculation with the Congress expressing surprise, saying it is “totally unexpected” and there is “far more to it than meets the eye”.
“The sudden resignation of the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is as shocking as it is inexplicable,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.
Why Dhankar express deep gratitude to the Prime Minister?
Dhankhar expressed his gratitude towards PM Modi and the council of ministers, “Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office”. “I express my deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers. Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he said in his letter to the President Murmu.
