Manchester United ready €80 million bid for Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal fans doubt Sporting pressure tactic

Manchester United may submit an €80 million (£69 million) bid to snatch Viktor Gyokeres from Arsenal, a fresh report has said.

27-year-old Swedish striker Gyokeres has long agreed his personal terms with Arsenal, but the Premier League team couldn't complete the move as Sporting Lisbon started having second thoughts about accepting the €73.5 million (£64 million)-worth proposal. They want more money for the forward, reports suggest, causing a roadblock.

This has opened up an opportunity for Manchester United to re-enter the transfer race. Ruben Amorim is an influential figure in Gyokeres's rise to become a premium goal-scorer and may make him reconsider opting for London over Manchester. If the Red Devils submit an €80 million bid as claimed, it will be ideal for Sporting, forcing Gyokeres to reconsider.

Noted football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on social media. He stated that some intermediaries were trying to get the deal done despite the player remaining hellbent on an Arsenal move.

"Manchester United have been offered again the chance by intermediaries close to Sporting to bid for Viktor Gyokeres; same as last week. Clear answer once again from Viktor: he wants to join Arsenal, his only desire… he keeps fighting for that," Romano claimed on X.

Arsenal having European football to offer was also among the reasons that influenced the player's choice to ditch a reunion with Amorim.

However, some are viewing the situation as a bluff – a pressure tactic for Arsenal to shell out a few more million euros to close out the deal. News of parallel interests are planned in the media for the buyer to speed up the process in the fear of the player being hijacked in the last lap.
