Rape case accused arrested
The district police have arrested a man accused of raping a minor from Kokrajhar in Assam.
According to the police, the accused had lured a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her at various locations across the country. The case was registered at the Pinjore police station on July 9 last year following a complaint by the victim’s father who had reported her missing.
During investigation, it emerged that the accused had become acquainted with the girl through a mutual connection and enticed her away from home.
DCP Shrishti Gupta said the accused took the girl to Ludhiana, Vijayawada, Kishanganj, and even Nepal, where she was repeatedly raped. The girl was eventually rescued from Kishanganj on the basis of a lead received by her family, although the accused had fled by then.
A case under Sections 140(3), 65(A) and 351(3) of the BNS and Sections 6, 17 and 21 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused, who was arrested from Assam on July 18. He was produced in court, which remanded him to six-day police custody.
In view of the trauma endured, the victim is undergoing counselling being provided by a legal aid counsellor.
