Guilty of making false charges, 5 MBBS students expelled

The administration of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital (SLBSGMCH), Mandi, at Nerchowk, has expelled five MBBS students for three months from classes and hostel following the recommendation of the Anti-Ragging Committee. The disciplinary action was taken after the students were found guilty of making false allegations of ragging against their seniors.

As per the official order issued by the Principal’s office, the expelled students belong to the MBBS batch of 2022. Along with the suspension, each student has been fined Rs 25,000, which must be deposited within a week. They have also been barred from attending remedial classes during the suspension period.

Dr DK Verma, Principal of SLBSGMCH, stated that the students had accused senior students of ragging incidents that allegedly took place in 2023. However, a detailed investigation by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the college found the claims baseless.

“The inquiry revealed that the allegations were fabricated with an intent to malign the college’s reputation and falsely implicate innocent students. This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated in an institution of medical education,” Dr Verma said.

The college administration has emphasised its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on ragging, while also ensuring that false complaints are dealt with firmly to protect the integrity of students and the institution.
