Kanwar Yatra Violence: UP Dy CM Keshav Maurya Blames SP For Orchestrated Unrest; Critics Slam BJP Over Law & Order Failures

As incidents of vandalism and unrest continue to surface from the ongoing Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) of deliberately sending individuals to disrupt the religious procession. “I suspect that SP is trying to spoil the atmosphere by planting its people among the Kanwariyas,” said Maurya, alleging that attempts are being made to defame the Yatra under the guise of participation.

The statement comes amid multiple viral videos on social media showing groups of Kanwariyas engaging in public disturbances and property damage across the state. Despite these recurring incidents, senior BJP leaders have focused more on political blame than addressing the escalating law-and-order challenges.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also commented on the violence, promising strict action against those responsible. However, no significant action has followed so far, and criticism is mounting over the state’s inability to contain the unrest.

Observers note that instead of acknowledging lapses in crowd management and public safety, BJP leaders have turned to opposition scapegoating raising concerns about governance, accountability, and the politicisation of law enforcement.
