Sawan Shivratri is one of the most sacred festivals. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The auspicious festival will be celebrated with great devotion across India during the holy month of Sawan (Shravan) in 2025. This year, Sawan Shivratri falls on July 23, 2025, marking an auspicious occasion for Shiva devotees to seek blessings, peace, and spiritual growth.
Significance of Sawan Shivratri
Sawan Shivratri holds immense importance as it is believed that during the Sawan month, Lord Shiva’s divine energy is at its peak. Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Shiva during this time can help fulfill desires, remove obstacles, and lead to spiritual upliftment. According to Hindu mythology, Sawan is the time when Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance, known as Tandava, making it an ideal period for seeking his blessings.
Muhurat
The main rituals of Sawan Shivratri are performed during the Nishita Kaal (midnight period). According to Drik Panchag, Chaturdashi Tithi begins at 04:39 AM on July 23, 2025, and it will end at 02:28 AM on July 24, 2025.
Rituals and celebrations
On this auspicious day, devotees should wake up early and take a bath before Sunrise. Clean your home with Gangajal and wear neat and clean clothes. It is best to visit the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati temple on this day to seek blessings. But if you can't visit the temple, you can worship the deity at home.
Prepare an asan and put a white cloth on it. Place the idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Offer flowers, panchamrit, bhog (kheer, fruits, datura, belpatra, and dry fruits), and recite Shiva Purana, Shiva's Sloka, and finally perform Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati aarti. Also offer jal abhishek to the deity.
