‘I will not act anymore if...’: Pawan Kalyan on what comes after ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu’

Pawan Kalyan has solidified himself in Andhra Pradesh as a noted thespian and a staunch politician, but it can be quite a challenge to balance both. While both professions demand a public life under intense scrutiny, the two could not be more different from each other. So, will the actor-turned-politician prioritise one over the other?

With his film Hari Hara Veera Mallu debuting in theatres this week, Kalyan recently spoke about the effect politics had on his filming schedule, acknowledging the inconvenience it poses to the producers. “When I signed these three films, I had planned to complete them before the elections. However, I lost crucial time before the elections due to some political incidents,” Kalyan said to Hindustan Times. “I asked the producers of all three films to forgive me because I needed a few more days to complete the films. Even after I came into power, I took time to shoot for films and only did it for two hours a day.”

After Hari Hara Veera Mallu, the deputy chief minister has two more film releases on the horizon—Sujeeth’s OG and Harish Shankar’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh. While it may be a chore to handle he two tasks, Kalyan does have a game plan. “I have completed shooting for OG and have around five days left to complete Ustaad Bhagat Singh. I will definitely not act anymore if I have political clashes because my priority is the administration and the Janasena Party. However, I need cinema for my financial sustenance. So, I will look to producing films in the future. Even if I do act, it will only be for two hours per day. But right now, I haven’t signed any more films.”
