Train reservations Rules:  The Railway Ministry has made another important change in the passenger ticketing process. After the recent updates in chart preparation and Tatkal booking, a new circular issued on Tuesday changes the rules for handling special travel requests. This will ease operations and prevent last minute delays. The Railway Ministry has changed the guidelines for the time of submission of Emergency Quota (EQ) requests. Now passengers will have to submit the request for emergency quota one day before their journey. This change will be applicable to all trains. Recently, the ministry had changed the time of preparation of reservation chart to eight hours before the departure of the train.

Railway Reservation Emergency Quota Request: The circular states, “For all trains running between 0000 hours to 1400 hours, emergency quota requests should reach the EQ Cell by 1200 hours on the previous day of journey.” The circular also states that for all other trains running between 1401 hours to 2359 hours, emergency quota requests should reach the EQ Cell by 1600 hours on the previous day of journey. Requests received on the day of departure of the train will not be accepted.

Holiday guidelines also updated: In case of Sundays or public holidays, the circular mentions that requests for such trains should be made on the previous working day. “Requests for accommodation in trains for release of emergency quota on Sundays or combined holidays following Sunday should be made during office hours of the previous working day,” the circular states.

Large number of requests from officials: The Railway Ministry said that the reservation cell of the Railway Board handles a large number of EQ requests from VIPs, railway officials, senior officials and other departments. According to the circular, all efforts are made to allocate the quota judiciously and with common sense. The ministry has asked all officials to strictly follow the revised time so that there is no delay in the train chart.

The ministry said that the allotment is done on time and there is no delay in chart preparation, which causes extreme hardships to passengers and may also delay the departure of the train. Forwarding officers have also been asked to check the authenticity of every EQ request and follow the existing guidelines on allotment.

Indian Railways changes ticket booking system: Earlier this month, Indian Railways made major changes to its passenger reservation system to make train travel more comfortable for passengers. These changes include new rules for Tatkal ticket booking, earlier preparation of train charts for waitlisted passengers and an overall upgrade of the reservation system.
