UPI New Rules: PhonePe, GooglePay, Paytm users pay attention! 7 rules of UPI payment will change from August 1
UPI New Rules: New rules will be applicable for UPI users from August 1, 2025. NPCI has made seven major changes to make UPI faster and safer, including limits on balance check and transaction status.
New Rule 1 August: A big change is going to happen for UPI users from August 1, 2025. If you make payments daily through UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm, then this news is important for you.
The National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI has implemented new rules to make UPI faster, safer and more reliable. These rules may seem technical to you, but they will affect your everyday digital payments.
More than 16 billion transactions are done through UPI every month in India. But many times there are complaints of server interruption or delay. To reduce these problems, NPCI has made seven major changes.
Limit for checking balance
The first change is the limit for checking balance. Now you will be able to check balance only 50 times a day from your UPI app. Checking balance repeatedly puts pressure on the server, which slows down the transaction.
Limit for checking linked bank accounts
You will be able to check the bank accounts linked to your mobile number only 25 times a day. This will reduce unnecessary load on the system and also reduce the possibility of fraud.
Change related to autopay transactions
Autopay transactions like Netflix or mutual fund installments will now be processed in only three time slots. These times are before 10 am, 1 pm to 5 pm and after 9:30 pm. This will reduce the pressure on the server during peak hours.
Limit for checking transaction status
The fourth change is the limit for checking transaction status. Now you will be able to check the status of a failed transaction only three times a day, and there must be a gap of 90 seconds between each check. Checking the status repeatedly slows down the system.
Bank name will be visible before making payment
The rule that has already been implemented from 30 June before 1 August is that the receiver’s registered bank name will be visible before making payment. This has reduced the risk of money going to the wrong account or fraud.
Limit of payment reversal
The limit of chargeback i.e. payment reversal has been fixed. You can ask for chargeback 10 times in 30 days and 5 times from any one person or institution.
Instructions for banks and apps
Apart from this, NPCI has instructed banks and apps to monitor API usage, so that there is no glitch in the system. The purpose of these changes is to make UPI better. You will have to give up the habit of checking balance or refreshing status repeatedly. Keep in mind the non-peak time for autopay and check the receiver’s name before payment. These rules will make the system fast and secure, so that you can enjoy digital payments without interruption.
