‘Saiyaara’ surpasses Mohit Suri’s own classic Aashaqui 2’s lifetime collections

The Saiyaara train is riding ahead with full steam and is nowhere near slowing down, nor are its numbers at the box office. The film has been receiving rave reviews through and through, breaking records not just in the romance genre, but surpassing cinematic giants.
Helmed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara reached a major milestone on its fifth day. With Tuesday’s collections, the film now sits comfortably above Aashaqui 2, also directed by Suri. By Tuesday, Saiyaara managed to rake in Rs 138 crore in India, with Rs 187 crore in worldwide collections. This beats Aashaqui 2’s lifetime collection of Rs 110 crore.

The two films have been subject to comparison since they both revolve around a troubled musician. Saiyaara, much like Aashaqui 2, stars debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The 2013 flick featured Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, both of whom got catapulted into fame after the film’s release.
On Tuesday, Kapoor lauded Saiyaara, subtly acknowledging the comparisons. Taking to her Instagram stories, the actress penned, “Saiyaara se Aashiqui ho gayi hai mujhe (I’ve fallen in love with Saiyaara).”
