Anti-drug awareness meets held in 20 wards of Phagwara

As part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign, awareness meetings have been organised in nearly 20 wards of Phagwara city. The campaign coordinator, Daljit Raju, shared this information while speaking to the mediapersons here today, adding that more meetings wouild be conducted across all 50 wards to spread awareness and mobilise public support.

Daljit, along with constituency in charge Harji Mann, appealed to residents to actively support the mission to eradicate drug abuse from the city. Meetings were held in Ward Nos. 16, 18, 19, and 20-under the leadership of local representatives Darshan Lal Dharmasot, Harpreet Singh Bhogal, Vicky Sood, and Mayor Rampal Uppal.

Prominent attendees included former Cabinet minister Joginder Singh Mann, organisational in charge Tavinder Ram and councillor Padam Dev Sudhir, who voiced their commitment to the anti-drug efforts. In his address, Raju emphasised that a crackdown on drug sellers and users had been initiated, with clear directives from the government to the police administration to take strict action without any exception.

“No recommendations or influence from any senior official will be entertained. There will be zero tolerance,” Raju asserted.

Mann stated that the Punjab Government’s initiative aimed to make Phagwara a drug-free zone. “We are committed to doing everything possible, but public cooperation is essential,” he said.

Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, SP, urged citizens to report any drug-related activity in their areas. Mayor Rampal Uppal welcomed the campaign leaders.
