According to the Railways, this will greatly improve connectivity with other cities of India. According to the Times of India report, these new routes are Pune-Shegaon, Pune-Vadodara, Pune-Secunderabad and Pune-Belgaum. Currently, two Vande Bharat trains are running from Pune.
These trains run on Pune-Kolhapur and Pune-Hubli routes. According to the TOI report, with the launch of these four new routes, the total number of Vande Bharat trains running from Pune will now increase to 6.
Pune-Shegaon Vande Bharat
The proposed Pune-Shegaon Vande Bharat Express is expected to stop at Daund, Ahmednagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna.
Pune-Vadodara Vande Bharat
This high-speed Vande Bharat train will likely stop at Lonavala, Panvel, Vapi and Surat. This will reduce the travel time between Pune and Vadodara from the usual 9 hours to around 6-7 hours.
Pune-Secunderabad Vande Bharat
Connecting two major IT and education hubs, this train is expected to stop at Daund, Solapur and Gulbarga (Kalburgi).
Pune-Belagavi Vande Bharat
Some of the possible stops on this route will include places like Satara, Sangli and Miraj.
Ticket prices
According to the report, the ticket prices of these new trains are expected to be between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 depending on the route and category. These trains will be equipped with the standard features of the Vande Bharat fleet, ergonomic seating, automatic gates, onboard Wi-Fi, modern toilets and high security systems.
The report said that apart from these four new routes, there is also a plan to run a Vande Bharat sleeper train from Pune to Nagpur. According to the report, the official timetable and other details have not been revealed yet.
Railway gift to Kashmir
Meanwhile, Northern Railway has started the commercial operation of Vande Bharat train between Srinagar city and Katra city of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that the commercial operation of Vande Bharat train has started, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6. This rail service connects Katra town of Reasi district to the Kashmir Valley. The train service from Jammu to the valley will operate in September this year after the completion of expansion work at the Jammu railway station.
The state-of-the-art Vande Bharat train has been designed to suit the temperature extremes and weather vagaries in the region. Centrally heated, charging points in the cabin, comfortable seating arrangements, food facilities for passengers and defrosting technology for the driver’s windshield are some of the features of this train.
It will take eight hours by road from Katra to Srinagar if the weather and road conditions are good. The Vande Bharat train will take three hours from Katra to Srinagar. There are 36 tunnels and hundreds of bridges on the rail track between Katra and Srinagar, including the Chenab railway bridge, which is the world’s highest bridge and is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The Anji cable-stayed bridge on this rail link is the first such railway bridge in the country. Both these bridges are considered engineering marvels, for which Indian Railways has earned appreciation from all over the world. Officials said that freight trains will also be run on the track on demand.
