Bihar rocked by another murder: Muzaffarpur scrap dealer shot dead near Majhaulia
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vinita Sinha
Days after the shocking murders of a businessman and a gangster rocked Bihar's capital Patna, panic gripped the neighbouring district of Muzaffarpur where a junk dealer was shot near Majhaulia on Wednesday night.
According to police, the victim, Mohammad Badal, was shot at three times near the chest by an unknown assailant. Badal was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The body has been sent for postmortem.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vinita Sinha said a case has been registered and the search is on to nab the accused.
“The family has named a few people who threatened the deceased two days ago. Primarily, it appears that the incident occurred due to a dispute. A case will be registered, and police teams have already left to conduct raids...Action is being taken based on the statements given by the family,” she told news agency ANI.
Sinha said there was a dispute between the victim and the alleged accused two days ago, and Badal’s family members had called Emergency number 112.
The incident sparked a massive protest in the area with local people blocking National Highway-28. The protesters also allegedly set fire to two vehicles.
The murder came days after gangster Chandan Mishra was shot dead at a private hospital in Patna in broad daylight.
Earlier on July 4, Patna-based businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead near his house by two unidentified criminals.
In a similar incident in Saran district last week, a man identified as Roshan Kumar Singh was gunned down by unidentified assailants. According to police, preliminary investigation pointed towards a family dispute as the possible cause of the fatal incident.
The recent spike in the number of crimes, including murders, has put the JD(U)-BJP government on the back foot ahead of the assembly elections due later this year.
