Kamal Haasan Reviews ‘Maareesan’, Says Vadivelu-Fahadh Film Left Him 'Laughing And Thinking'

Veteran actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan has heaped praise on Maareesan, an upcoming Tamil-language comedy thriller that brings together celebrated performers Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil. Written by V. Krishna Moorthy and directed by Sudheesh Sankar, the film is already drawing attention ahead of its theatrical release on July 25.

The movie, which marks Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil’s second collaboration after Maamannan (2023), has received special recognition from Haasan, who lauded the film for its clever storytelling and layered social commentary.

Taking to X, Kamal Haasan said, "Watched Maareesan - a film that dances effortlessly between wit and depth, leaving me laughing, thinking, and admiring its craft. Had a wonderful conversation with the team to congratulate them on this delightful creation. Beneath its humour lies a socially conscious lens on human emotion and a keen gaze at the darker shadows of our society."

"The kind of inventive, spirited cinema I naturally gravitate towards - both as viewer and creator," he said.

Set against the backdrop of a con gone wrong, Maareesan follows the journey of Dhaya (played by Fahadh Faasil), a thief who attempts to rob Velayudham (Vadivelu), an elderly man battling Alzheimer’s. What begins as a deceitful plan transforms into an unexpected emotional road trip that reshapes the lives of both characters.

The supporting cast features a host of popular faces, including Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Sithara, P. L. Thenappan, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, and Krishna.

The film is produced by R. B. Choudary under the Super Good Films banner, with Yuvan Shankar Raja composing the music. Cinematography is handled by Kalaiselvan Sivaji, and Sreejith Sarang serves as the editor.
