‘Worse than Karun Nair’s leave…’: Shubman Gill slammed for leg-before dismissal

India’s captain Shubman Gill’s wicket on opening day of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford sparked a lot of controversies on social media with fans comparing it to Karun Nair’s infamous “leave” in the third Test at Lord’s.

Gill, leading India for the first time in a Test match, misjudged a delivery from Ben Stokes’ clever angles, resulting in an LBW dismissal that left fans shocked. Stokes hit a ball that angled sharply in the 50th over. Gill tried to shoot, expecting it to go away, but the ball hit him on the front pad.

Shubman Gill brutally trolled on social media follwoing his dismissal

The English skipper’s confident appeal was immediately upheld by the umpire Rod Tucker after a brief pause and Gill’s review was in vain because it was determined that the ball was striking the off-stump full and hard.

Gill’s poor decision to leave such a threatening delivery was highlighted by the fact that it wasn’t even an umpire’s call. On social media, phrases like “worse than Karun Nair’s last Test leave” started trending quickly

India scored 26/4 at stumps

Despite Gill’s wicket India finished day 1 at 264/4, with Yashasvi Jasiwal’s and KL Rahul providing a solid platform at the top before falling to Liam Dawson and Chris Woakes respectively. Sai Sudarshan’s 61 runs knock also played a key role in helping India reach 26.

The most crucial setback India faced on Day 1 was Rishabh Pant’s injury, which appeared serious as he was visibly in pain. A medical cart was used to take him off the field.

Rishabh played a calm and composed innnigs of 37 off 48 deliveries before he was retired hurt. The Indian team will hope for a Pant’s speedy recovery as he is one of the most key player in India’s batting line up.
