Far from the limelight of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a unknown cricketer from a remote village in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, is making headlines after smashing an impressive 232 runs off just 77 balls in a local league match.
Adil Nabi, popularly known as the ‘Pollard of Kashmir’, has become an overnight star following his explosive innings, which included 11 fours and 29 sixes. Donning jersey number 10 famously worn by India’s great Sachin Tendulkar, Adil achieved this remarkable feat while playing for the ‘Bungam Titans’ against the ‘Mishwara Cricket Club Shopian’ at the Nagwan cricket ground on Sunday, in a tournament organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Adil Nabi scripted history in local cricket
This knock will be etched in the history of local cricket. This innings is a example of what is possible with hard work, pasion and dedication. While talking about his explosive knock, Adil told ETV Bharat, credited it to his hard work and passion for the game.
“There is no shortage of talent among the youth here, but unfortunately, there is neither a ground nor an academy here, where we can go and improve our skills,” an elated Adil said.
Adil Nabi, is a well-known figure among the local youth in his community and has had a deep love for cricket since he was a young boy. Adil is a vital member of his team as a right-handed opening batsman who can also bowl off-spin when necessary. Even though he hasn’t yet taken part in any official cricket trials, he always leads from the front and works hard to help his team win.
Adil appealed to the district administration to pay attention to the sports infrastructure
Adil highlighted on the lack of sports infrastructure in Pulwama district, and also appealed the district administration to pay attention to the matter. “We also don’t have turf and have to be content with a mat for our matches. I appeal to the Deputy Commissioner to pay attention to the rural areas of the district and build sports grounds here too, so that our youth can also reach the top in sports.”
Another young player opened up about the similar concern and said, “We are facing difficulties in playing due to the incomplete project. We appeal to the administration to complete this project or build a new complete sports ground, so that children can participate in healthy activities and improve their future,” he said.
