India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right leg on the opening day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, returned to bat despite having a broken foot.
The audience at the Old Trafford gave Pant a standing ovation for his dedication and passion for the game, as he hobbled back to bat.
Pant was hit on his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off a delivery from Chris Woakes. He was visibly in pain as he lay on the ground in discomfort. He was taken off the field with the help of a medical cart and later sent for scans.
According to reports, the 27-year-old was advised by the doctor for a six weeks rest to recover form the fracture. However, the BCCI confirmed that while Pant will not keep wickets, he will bat if required. Pant’s bravery in coming out to bat when the team needed him most has made headlines. Now, all eyes will be on the 27-year-old batter and Washington Sundar, who will look to post a strong first-innings total on the board.
Pant stepped onto the field following Shardul Thakur’s wicket. he resumed his innings at 37. Dhruv Jurel is set to take over the wicketkeeping duties in this match and is likely to replace Pant in the playing XI for the final game of the series.
This match is crucial for India as they trail 1-2 in the series. India needs to win to level the series and keep their hopes of a series victory alive.
