Odisha Vigilance Arrests BMC Engineer in Disproportionate Assets Case

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance arrested Jagannath Pattnaik, an executive engineer of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Thursday for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) far exceeding his known income sources.
Pattnaik is set to be produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, later today.
Vigilance searches on Pattnaik’s properties uncovered substantial assets, including three multi-storeyed buildings (one in Bhubaneswar, two in Gunupur), a farmhouse, three high-value plots in Bhubaneswar, 460 grams of gold, and bank deposits over Rs 80 lakh.
Additionally, the Vigilance sleuths recovered a pair of antler horns and a country-made gun, for which Pattnaik provided no satisfactory explanation.
A separate case has been filed against him under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, for illegal possession of antler horns (OR Case No. 3 in Balipatna Forest Range). The investigation into both cases is ongoing.
