Indian Man Arrested for Series of Thefts at Jewel and Changi Airport

Singapore – A 38-year-old Indian national has been arrested for allegedly stealing from multiple retail outlets at Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport and transit zones at Changi Airport terminals.

The man has committed theft from 14 different shops, making off with items such as perfumes, cosmetics, and bags totalling $5,136 in value.

The first incident came to light on 29 May 2025, when a staff member at a retail store in Jewel Changi Airport found a missing bag during a stock audit. While checking the CCTV footage, the suspect left the store without paying. By the time police identified and captured him, he had already fled the country.

However, on 1 June 2025, the suspect returned to Singapore while in transit at Changi Airport. Officers from the Airport Police Division arrested him and found several suspicious items in his luggage. Follow-up investigations and surveillance footage linked him to 13 additional thefts across the airport.

He is set to be charged in court on 25 July 2025 with 13 thefts under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both. He also faces a separate charge under the Miscellaneous Offences Act for fraudulent possession of property, which carries up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Singapore Airport Police have emphasised that attempting to flee the country will not shield offenders from justice.

“Offenders should not think they can evade capture by quickly boarding an outbound flight.” “We will continue working closely with stakeholders to prevent and deter shop theft.”
