Books Meant For Students Sold To Scrap Dealer In MP's Satna
Satna (Madhya Pradesh): The text books supplied by the government for free distribution among students were sold to a scrape dealer in a CM Rise School at Unchehara in Satna district on Friday.
The incident came to light when villagers saw a pick-up on the school premises in the morning. When then went inside the school compound, they saw a bagful of books being kept on the vehicle.
The text books meant for distribution among students were being sold to the scrap dealers. When the officials of the education department informed about the incident, they said they would act against the school authorities.
The incident rattled the school administration. Principal of Vinod Kumar Shukla said the peon of the school Praveen met him in the morning and took the key of the midday meal room where the books and notebooks had been kept.
He brought out the books from there, Shukla said, adding that he did not know that the books had been sold. The block development education officer Ramnaresh Patel said the books are given only after they are demanded through Vimarsh Portal.
The books are generally received from the depots, he said, adding that he had no knowledge about the sale of books by the CM Rise School. The books are issued to the schools on the basis of the number of students, but there are no provisions for selling extra books, Patel said.
When the issue was put up before the district education officer, Kanchan Shrivastava, he said he would act against the guilty only after an inquiry.
