Delhi sees 118 clean air days in 6 months: Sirsa
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday said the Capital has recorded 118 days of ‘satisfactory’ or ‘moderate’ air quality within the six months, while crediting the Delhi Government’s systematic and long-term measures to tackle pollution.
Drawing a comparison with previous government led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sirsa said Delhi has surpassed its earlier record of 110 clean air days in 2016. He pointed out that this progress had come within just five months of the current government’s tenure, and emphasised that the difference lay in the AAP administration’s focus on results rather than excuses.
The minister explained that the improvement was not accidental or weather-driven but stemmed from consistent multi-agency coordination, ongoing landfill management, intensified mechanised road cleaning, and a broader shift towards accountability-focused governance.
Sirsa also revealed that the government has received clearance to begin cloud seeding trials, a weather-modification technique to artificially induce rainfall.
These tests are expected to be carried out in September, with a possibility of further deployment in November and December when pollution traditionally spikes.
He said the administration was not prematurely celebrating, but rather staying focused on its efforts, which were now beginning to show results with increasing frequency.
According to the minister, the clean air initiative is backed by daily monitoring, focused intervention at pollution hotspots, clearing of legacy waste, and continuous enforcement drives. He stressed that the entire strategy is part of a coordinated long-term environmental plan involving various departments and the active participation of citizens.
