Arki police arrest drug peddler with over 112 gm of cannabis

In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the Arki police arrested a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of cannabis during a late-night operation.

Superintendent of Police, Solan, Gaurav Singh said on the intervening night of July 23 and 24, the Arki police received a tip-off about a private vehicle — a Maruti S-Presso — suspected to be transporting a large cache of contraband along the Kunihar-Piplughat route.

Acting on the intelligence input, the police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. They arrested Amar Dev (57), a resident of Nauni near Darlaghat and recovered over 112 gm of cannabis from his possession.

A case under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Arki Police Station. The vehicle used in the transportation of the contraband has also been seized and taken into custody.

The accused was produced before a court today to obtain his remand. Police officials are currently verifying his criminal history, given the sizable quantity of contraband involved. SP Singh reiterated the district police’s commitment to curbing the drug menace and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
