Yamuna: Flood Fear Looms Over Delhi As Yamuna River Nears Danger Mark After Water Release From Haryana
A fresh flood alert has been issued in the national capital, Delhi, as the water level of the Yamuna River continues to rise rapidly. The situation turned serious after a significant amount of water was released from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage, pushing the river close to the danger mark.According to officials, the rising water levels are a direct consequence of increased rainfall in the upstream regions and the subsequent water discharge from Haryana. This is not the first time Delhi has faced such a situation. In previous years too, similar releases from Hathnikund have led to urban flooding across various parts of the city including low-lying areas near the riverbanks. The Delhi government has activated emergency response systems and deployed teams in vulnerable zones. Citizens living near the floodplains have been advised to move to safer areas as precautionary evacuations begin. Waterlogging and traffic disruptions have already been reported from several parts of East and North Delhi. As monsoon rains continue, the administration remains on high alert. The recurring pattern of sudden water surges from upstream states has again raised questions about Delhi’s flood preparedness and long-term water management strategies.
