WATCH: 2 More Sluice Gates Of Bargi Dam Open Amid Heavy Rainfall In Jabalpur & Nearby Areas

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Incessant rainfalls have raised the water levels in several parts of Madhya Pradesh. Some areas are also suffering from flood-like situations. 

Meanwhile, 2 additional sluice gates of Jabalpur’s Bargi Dam were opened by the authorities on Friday around 11 am due to continuous rainfall in the catchment area. Now, the total number of open gates has increased to 7. 

According to authorities, the water is being released from 7 gates at an average height of 1.21 meters. The discharge rate has now been increased significantly - from 10,595 cusecs to 40,295 cusecs.

Current water level is 419 m

Previously, 5 gates were open to control the water level of the dam. The full reservoir level of the Bargi Dam is 422.76 meters. According to current plans, the water level is to be maintained at 417.50 meters till July 31. At present, the recorded water level is 419 meters.

Due to this increased release, the water level of the Narmada River in downstream areas may rise by 2 to 3 meters. An alert has been issued for low-lying areas including Narsinghpur and Hoshangabad.

Authorities have urged people to stay away from river ghats as a safety measure.
