Protest for Statehood shouldn’t be for personal benefit: Azad

JAMMU, July 25: Former J&K Chief Minister and Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that protest of the any political party or the organization for the cause of Statehood should be for seeking desired goal and not for the personal benefit.
Azad, a former Congress leader was responding to the questions of the media-persons at his Jammu residence today.
While responding to a question on the protest by the Congress party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, former Chief Minister said holding a peaceful protest by any organisation is its right in a democratic set up. But the protest should be for achieving desired goal and not for taking personal or any political benefit.
“It is infact of two types. One is to get their name among the martyrs (Shaheeds) and second to achieve personal benefit. I think it was much to get the political benefit rather than to get the desired goal, because that time had lapsed to go for such a protest,” Azad remarked.
“In my opinion `they’ should have gone for a dialogue first with the BJP. The Prime Minister Modi has said in the House to provide Statehood to the Jammu and Kashmir. The dialogue should have been initiated with them, rather than going for a protest at Delhi or elsewhere. That could be the serious approach,” Azad maintained.
When asked about the speculations about his name for the post of Vice President of India after the resignation of Dhankhar, Azad said, ” Ye sab Bakwas Hai. I don’t know who has aired such rumours. This is such a high position which is not assigned in any haste or raising voice by a group of people. There are so many senior and competent people in the county for the position. The people should avoid believing such rumours which have no base,” Azad asserted.
