Agniveer dies in mine blast in Poonch

An Agniveer of the Army was killed on Friday when a patrolling party came in close proximity to a land mine in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district.

As the area is close to the Line of Control (LoC), soldiers hold regular patrols in the area to keep a watch on any attempts of infiltration. The land mines deployed to deter infiltration often get displaced from their original location due to rainfall and other factors, ending up along patrol routes.

An official spokesperson said, “GOC of White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 Jat Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice, while on an area domination patrol in general area of Krishna Ghati brigade on July 25 following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief”.

The incident occurred at around 12.15 pm when the anti-personnel mine exploded near the Victor post in the area. A total of three soldiers were injured in the blast out of which one succumbed. The two injured soldiers include a Naib Subedar and a Havildar.
