MPEd admissions at govt college under consideration, says dept
Allaying the concerns of students and parents, the Department of Higher Education (DHE) has clarified that it is considering to start admission to the Master of Physical Education (MPEd) course in the Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11.
Two students from the Physical Education Department of the college had bagged laurels in the recent University Grant Commission-National Eligibility test (NET). While Ananya Bist of the 2022 batch secured a perfect 100 percentile, Shivam Gandhi of the 2024 batch scored 99.99 percentile to bag top ranks at the national level.
Recently, some parents and applicants claimed that the link on the college website to apply for MPEd admission was not accessible. They feared that the DHE is planning to discontinue the course.
“The department is considering starting admissions to MPEd course. However, it’s still under consideration. The final result of BPEd course is yet to be announced and we have to wait for it,” said a senior functionary of the DHE.
As per the college’s 2025-26 prospectus, there are 40 seats for MPEd course and the number depends on the availability of the supervisor. “Many students tried to apply for admission via the online link, but to no avail. The college prospectus mentions that the course details will be available later on www.dhe.chd.gov.in. We are still waiting for clarity,” said an applicant.
In the year 2004, BPEd (4-year teacher education course) was introduced in the college and the MPEd (2-year programme) started in 2009. The college attracts sportspersons, who wish to pursue a career in coaching and is the only co-education government institute after Panjab University to offer the course at a reasonable fee structure.
