Kargil Vijay Diwas: A celebration of courage

The Headquarters of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) in Shimla commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas with immense fervour and patriotic spirit, marking 26 years since India’s resolute victory in the Kargil War.

The day’s commemorative events were formally inaugurated by Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ARTRAC, in a solemn and dignified ceremony. The highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Kargil War veterans, honoured for their indomitable courage and selfless service. Their stories of valour served as a beacon of inspiration, especially for the younger generation, reminding all of the enduring values of bravery, duty and sacrifice.

To immerse attendees in the spirit of the occasion, impactful video clips on Kargil Vijay Diwas and Operation Sindoor were screened, vividly portraying the challenges and triumphs faced by the Indian Armed Forces. A photo and video exhibition further showcased the heroism and personal stories of the war heroes, offering a moving glimpse into the lives of those who fought on the icy, treacherous heights of Kargil.

The celebrations reached a high note at the historic Gaiety Theatre, where patriotic musical performances enthralled the audience and filled the air with a deep sense of national pride. The enchanting strains of music paid homage to the spirit of sacrifice and the strength of unity that define the Indian Armed Forces.

The event saw the presence of distinguished guests, senior officials, military veterans, school and college students, NCC cadets and members of the local community, all coming together to honour the memories and contributions of the brave soldiers. Their collective presence and heartfelt participation underscored a shared reverence for the defenders of the nation.
