Sweta Singh suicide: Protests erupt in Udaipur college over teacher harassment claims

The suicide of a female student alleging mental harassment by teachers at a private dental college in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has sparked off a wave of protests on the campus.
The students carried out a protest march and also blocked a road outside, demanding action against the teachers mentioned in her suicide note. The college authorities held talks with the students and assured them of strict action against the faculty members.
"The matter is being investigated by the police, and they will take appropriate action based on their findings. The college management is also addressing the situation and will terminate the staff members involved," the director told the media, reported PTI.
Sweta Singh, a final-year BDS student from Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly hanged herself in her hostel room on Thursday night. According to reports, Sweta’s roommate discovered her hanging around 11 pm and alerted to the authorities. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
A suicide note recovered from Sweta’s room accused teachers of mentally harassing students and not conducting examinations on time.
