Maharashtra News: Sandeep Deshpande’s Fiery Slogan Triggers New Wave of Marathi-Hindi Dispute | ABP NEWS
The ongoing language conflict between Hindi and Marathi speakers in Maharashtra shows no signs of stopping. Though tensions occasionally simmer down, incidents reignite the dispute, often fueled by provocative statements, videos, or images. Recently, a new controversy emerged after Sandeep Deshpande, a senior leader from Raj Thackeray’s party, posted a photo on social media wearing a T-shirt with a slogan that has sparked fresh political outrage. The slogan reads, “Samudra mein dube dube kar marenge” (We will drown you repeatedly in the sea), a provocative phrase targeting Hindi speakers. This incident follows a worrying pattern of rising hostility between the two language communities. In Navi Mumbai, violence erupted when a Marathi-speaking student was beaten outside a college, highlighting how the language divide is now escalating into physical confrontations. Earlier, Hindi speakers were primarily targeted, but recent events show Marathi speakers are also becoming victims. Political leaders like Nishikant Dubey and Raj Thackeray have exchanged harsh words, further deepening the divide. The Navi Mumbai police have registered a case regarding the assault and are investigating the video evidence. Meanwhile, Deshpande’s provocative T-shirt has intensified political and social tensions in the state, signaling that the Marathi-Hindi language conflict in Maharashtra is far from resolution.
