Woman alleges torture by in-laws for dowry
A married woman has accused her husband and in-laws of allegedly getting the sex determination test of her unborn child done, not once but thrice and later getting it aborted, besides physically assaulting her.
The women’s wing of city police has registered an FIR in this regard though violation of PCPNDT Act was yet to be added to it.
The victim Sonal Kalia (30), in her complaint to the women’s wing of the city police, alleged that her husband Gaurav Datta, father-in-law Subhash Datta, mother-in-law Mona Datta and sister-in-law Monty Datta, all residents of Jalandhar, harassed her for bringing insufficient dowry. She alleged that they harassed her physically and mentally to bring more dowry. She got pregnant thrice and her in-laws got the sex determination test conducted and later got the abortion done.
Following her complaint, the police have registered an FIR under section 316 (2) and 85 of BNS against them.
ASI Avtar Singh, investigating officer, said the sections of PCPNDT Act would be added to the FIR only if the victim had the proof. Moreover, he said he had just received the file. He said the complainant has been asked to join the investigations and that appropriate action would be taken following a probe.
