BJP workers’ behaviour during minister’s visit was unfortunate: Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today criticised BJP leaders and workers for their alleged unruly behaviour during the visit of Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi to the disaster-affected Seraj Assembly constituency in Mandi district.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said that the protest and unruly behaviour of the BJP leaders and workers with the Revenue Minister in Seraj was most unfortunate. “The BJP workers, as part of a conspiracy, not only dishonoured democratic traditions but also tried to create hurdles in the process of providing houses to those who had been rendered homeless,” he wrote.

Negi, during a visit to Seraj in Mandi yesterday, faced the wrath of an unruly mob, which flung shoes at him and showed black flags to him. The protesters were angry with the minister for his remarks on the disaster in Mandi and also over the state government’s decision to shift Horticulture College from Thunag.

Sukhu said that it appeared the BJP did not want that the flood-hit people should get houses. “If you cannot help those who have lost everything in the natural disaster, at least do not create obstacles in their rehabilitation process,” he added. The behaviour of BJP workers was against humanitarian considerations, he alleged.

The Chief Minister said that strict legal action would be taken against anyone who tried to obstruct the rehabilitation of disaster-hit people. “The state is working towards providing help to every disaster-hit person and it is totally insensitivity on the part of those who are trying to derive political mileage out of the disaster or holding violent agitations,” he wrote on social media.
