Tragedy at Mansa Devi: Mahendra Bhatt Calls for Investigation, Congress Alleges Negligence | ABP NEWS

In the wake of the tragic stampede at Haridwar’s Mansa Devi temple, which claimed the lives of seven devotees, Uttarakhand BJP President Mahendra Bhatt expressed deep sorrow and pledged a thorough investigation. Speaking to the ABP News, Bhatt said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is closely monitoring the situation and has assured that a fair and transparent inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the disaster. Bhatt acknowledged that a sudden surge in devotees overwhelmed the temple premises, which contributed to the stampede. He praised the administration’s past crowd management during events like the recent Kanwar Yatra, but admitted that more precautions are needed at consistently crowded pilgrimage sites like Mansa Devi. Responding to criticism from the Congress party, which accused the government of turning religious sites into “picnic spots,” Bhatt dismissed the remarks as politicization of a sensitive issue. He emphasized that the government consistently works to maintain order at religious sites and that any lapses will be addressed. He further assured that those found responsible will not be spared. Bhatt concluded by stating that the state will take stronger measures to avoid such tragedies in the future and ensure the safety of pilgrims at all major religious locations.
