37 persons arrested on charge of consuming liquor at public places in Yamunanagar district

The Yamunanagar district police have started a drive to take action against those persons, who drink at public places and those who serve alcohol to such persons.

A team of special staff of the district police arrested 37 persons from different areas of the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri on charge of consuming liquor at public places.

According to information, the team arrested five persons from the market at Sector 17; 11 persons from the area of the City police station, Jagadhri; 12 persons from the area of City police station, Yamunanagar, and nine persons from Buria Chowk, on charges of drinking alcohol at public places.

Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesman, said as per the directions of Ambala Division Inspector General of Police Pankaj Nain and under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, the special staff was keeping an eye on such persons and they would no longer be spared.

Inspector Manoj Kumar, incharge of the special staff, warned the dhaba operators that they should not serve alcohol.

He said if any dhaba operator was found severing liquor illegally, strict action would be taken against him.

“The drive will continue regularly so that those drinking and serving alcohol at public places can be stopped,” said Kumar.

“Drinking and serving alcohol at public places like hotels, dhabas, tea stalls and rehris is illegal. Therefore, we are taking action against those who drink and serve alcohol at public places,” said Kumar.

He said on many occasions the police got information that peace was being disturbed by people drinking alcohol at public places. He said such people quarrel and sometimes under excessive intoxication they commit big crimes.

“Now, there will be no mercy for those who fight or create ruckus at public places after drinking alcohol. Our team is doing its work very diligently,” said Kumar.
