Sanawar school wins state swimming championship
The 2nd Himachal Pradesh State Swimming Championship concluded at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, with much enthusiasm and celebration. The host school, Lawrence School, Sanawar, emerged as the overall champions, lifting the prestigious trophy, while Pinegrove School, Dharampur, secured the runners-up trophy.
The championship witnessed participation from 178 swimmers representing 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, along with five school teams. The event provided a vibrant platform for young swimmers to showcase their aquatic skills and sportsmanship in a highly competitive yet spirited environment.
Praveen Bhardwaj, Block Development Officer, Dharampur, was the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the importance of sports in shaping character and building leadership among youth.
Commending the participants for their dedication and zeal, he stated, “Regardless of win or loss, participation with integrity and fair play is the real celebration of the game.” He also used the occasion to raise awareness about the growing menace of drug abuse, urging the youth to “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life.”
In the individual awards category, Samaira Dhankar of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, was adjudged the Best Swimmer in the girls open category, while Bhusan Thakur from Solan district won the best swimmer in the boys open category. In the Under-17 category, Adhiraj Singh from The Lawrence School, Sanawar, was named best swimmer among boys and Bhagverdhkma Verma from Solan district was recognised as the best swimmer among girls.
Expressing gratitude at the conclusion of the event, Himmat Singh Dhillon, Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, coaches, officials and support staff for their valuable contributions in making the championship a grand success.
