Speeding car rams into auto; elderly man dead, wife hurt

A tragic road accident in Nawanshahr on Saturday claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured after a high-speed car rammed into an auto-rickshaw carrying an elderly couple.

The victims, Inderjeet Singh and his wife Simranjeet Kaur, residents of Khatkar Kalan, were on their way to Nawanshahr to get medication for eye ailment. They were travelling by an auto-rickshaw while their daughter was following behind on a scooter.

According to the police complaint filed by Loveleen Kaur, their daughter, the accident occurred when a speeding car coming from the Banga side hit the auto-rickshaw with great force. “The car was allegedly being driven in a reckless manner. The impact was so severe that the auto overturned on the road," she said in her complaint.

Passersby rushed to help and rushed the injured to the Civil Hospital in Banga. Simranjeet Kaur was later referred to DMC Ludhiana due to the severity of her injuries and Inderjeet succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The driver of the car has been identified as Roshanvir Singh from Amritsar district.

Following the complaint, the Nawanshahr police have registered a case against the accused under the charge of reckless driving and causing death due to negligence. Further investigation is underway. Cases under Sections 281 and 106 of BNS has been registered against the accused driver.
