MC removes pillars erected by hospital on public land

The Amritsar Municipal Corporation on Saturday took swift action against illegal encroachment by Amandeep Hospital, which had started erecting concrete pillars on public land near the road leading from Grace Avenue to Joshi Colony.

Residents of Grace Avenue, Joshi Colony, Lawrence Road and Dayanand Nagar had submitted a written complaint to Municipal Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh. The complaint alleged that Amandeep Hospital and its associated institutions were encroaching on government land and creating obstructions for the public. It further demanded immediate removal of the illegally installed structures.

Acting on the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, the Estate Department of the Municipal Corporation dispatched a team to the site. The team used a JCB machine to demolish the illegally constructed pillars that were being installed outside the hospital.

Municipal officials clarified that no private entity would be allowed to occupy public land and that strict action would continue to be taken against such violations in the future.

Local residents appreciated the prompt response of the Municipal Corporation and urged the administration to keep a close watch on encroachments in other parts of the city as well. However, a large generator set installed on the Mall Road outside a prominent sweet shop and bakery in Nehru Shopping Complex is being exempted by the Estate wing of MC. A few months back, the MC had made efforts to remove the generator set but failed.
