Madhya Pradesh July 28 2025 Weather Update: Rivers Overflow, Dams Opened, Red Alert Issued As Active Monsoon System Triggers Heavy Rainfall

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state is experiencing an intense spell of rain due to a strong system being active. Rivers and streams are in spate due to heavy rain in many districts.

On Sunday, there was a period of heavy rain in more than 30 districts including Bhopal, Indore. The weather is expected to remain the same for the next 3 days.

Heavy rain alert in these districts today

According to the Meteorological Department, there is an alert of very heavy rain in Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Niwari and Tikamgarh on Monday.

In the next 24 hours, up to 8 and a half inches of rain is predicted in these regions. Meanwhile, districts including Neemuch, Mandsaur, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Khandwa, Harda, Vidisha, Sagar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat and Chhatarpur are expected to recieve heavy rainfall.

Low pressure are active

According to the weather department, low pressure area was active in the western part of the state on Sunday. At the same time, a visible activity of two troughs was also witnessed. Due to this, there was a period of very heavy to heavy rain. Such weather will persist for the next 2-3 days.

Regions surpassed seasonal rainfall quota

Monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 16. Since then, an average of 24.9 inches of rain has been recorded. The normal rainfall of the state is an average of 37 inches.

Eastern and northern districts such as Tikamgarh, Niwari, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Morena, and Gwalior have surpassed their seasonal quota—some by as much as 37% extra, with Tikamgarh–Niwari receiving up to 42 inches.

In contrast, major urban centres like Ujjain, Bhopal and Jabalpur are lagging behind the seasonal quota of rainfall. Meanwhile, Indore has not even recorded 10 inches of rain so far.
