Three foreign militants were killed in 'Operation Mahadev', jointly launched by the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF on Monday.
The Indian Army confirmed that three militants were killed in the encounter.
"OP MAHADEV - Update
Three terrorist have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation Continues," the Chinar Corps said in a tweet.
Media reports claim that the three slain militants were involved in the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack in April in which 26 people were killed. However, there is no official confirmation on if the slain militants were present during the Pahalgam attack.
According to a News18 report, intelligence sources have confirmed that the slain terrorists belonged to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The process of identifying the bodies of the militants is underway, say media reports.
How the encounter unfolded
Security forces had launched a massive operation to track down the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. Intelligence inputs over the past month had indicated that the terrorists might have moved towards the Dachigam area, which is nearly 20 km from Srinagar's city centre.
According to officials, the encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Harwan area near the Dachigam National Park in Srinagar.
The security forces, acting on an intelligence input, launched an anti-militancy operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. Soon, reinforcements were rushed to the area, and the combing operations were intensified to track down the terrorists.
After a brief gun battle, the security personnel managed to trap the militants and neutralise them.
