The mystery behind the 'War 2' trailer oath: Here's what writer Shridhar Raghavan said

Yash Raj Films (YRF) released the much-anticipated trailer of War 2 three days ago, and the internet was abuzz with all kinds of theories and discussions about the characters played by its principal cast members Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr (making his Bollywood debut), and a past YRF connection to Kiara Advani's character, in the Ayan Mukerji directorial. An oath uttered by the two male stars is also being discussed. Is the oath real or something invented by the writers? There's an explanation for its inclusion.
YRF Spy Universe's head writer Shridhar Raghavan said the idea was to not give out a single plot, about which producer Aditya Chopra was very particular. "Adi was very clear that he did not want a single plot point of War 2 to be given out in the trailer. So, we created a fictional oath that the agents take during their induction into the deadly covert task forces as they prepare to sacrifice everything to protect our motherland at any cost. This oath in a way mirrors the dramatic, intense story of this film. With War 2, and with every film, we are giving people more glimpses into the shadowy world of the YRF Spy Universe - who really are these agents, what links them, what are their origin stories?"
Shridhar further elaborated that the idea was to build the "intrigue" surrounding the two primary characters. "As the trailer reveals, Hrithik and NTR are mirror images of each other, both extraordinary, ferocious soldiers bound by the call of duty to protect India — but then, why are they battling each other? What twist of destiny led to this crazy situation where these two juggernauts are on an explosive collision course?"
The second instalment in the War franchise and the sixth project in the YRF Spy Universe, the movie hits theatres on August 14. It marks the return of Hrithik Roshan as Major Kabir Dhaliwal to the big screen after five years.
