RPF of NFR recovered Ganja worth more than Rs. 3.67 crore
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway continued its intensive crackdown against the transhipment of contraband items through railways from 17th till 24th of July, 2025. During this period, RPF teams carried out operations at Agartala, Katihar, Bagdogra, Rangapara North, Lumding and Guwahati railway stations and trains. As a result of the sustained efforts, approximately 168.67 kgs of Ganja valued at around Rs. 16.83 lakhs were recovered and two individuals were apprehended in connection with the seizure. Additionally, 475 bottles of liquor worth Rs. 1.05 lakhs were confiscated, leading to the arrest of five persons. In separate actions during the same period, RPF personnel also apprehended seven individuals involved in the theft of passenger belongings and successfully recovered six stolen mobile phones, one laptop and cash worth Rs. 1.19 lakhs from them.
Since the beginning of the year up to 24th July 2025, the RPF of N. F. Railway has recovered a total of around 3,706.937 kgs of Ganja valued at approximately Rs. 3.67 crores and apprehended 126 drug peddlers in connection with these seizures.
On 23rd July 2025, the RPF team of Katihar, conducted a routine check onboard Train no. 20503 (Dibrugarh – New Delhi) Rajdhani Express at Katihar railway station. During the inspection, they discovered an unclaimed consignment of Ganja from one of the coaches, weighing approximately 51 kgs and valued at around Rs. 5.10 lakhs. The seized contraband was subsequently handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Katihar, for further legal action.
On 24th July 2025, during a routine check at Katihar Railway Station, the RPF team seized 169 bottles of liquor valued at approximately Rs. 71.60 thousand. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with the seizure. Subsequently, the detained persons, along with the recovered liquor, were handed over to the GRP/Katihar for further necessary action.
On 20th July 2025, the RPF team at Guwahati Railway Station conducted a routine check during which one individual was apprehended and a mobile phone worth Rs. 15 thousand was recovered from his possession. Similarly, on 23rd July 2025, the RPF team at Rangapara North Station conducted a routine check during which one individual was apprehended and a laptop worth Rs. 35 thousand was recovered from his possession. All the apprehended individuals, along with the recovered items and cash, were handed over to the respective Station In-Charge of the GRP for further legal action.
