'Avatar 3' trailer OUT: James Cameron's new film prepares for box office domination by fire

Disney finally released a spectacular first-look trailer for James Cameron's highly anticipated third installment in the 'Avatar' franchise on Monday.

The YouTube release comes after footage from the trailer was leaked online, following its exclusive theatre screenings just before each show of 'Fantastic Four: First Steps'.

After cycling through mesmerising shots from the previous films, the trailer offers a glimpse of Varang (played by Oona Chaplin), the head of a clan called the Ash People—a gaunt, soot-covered people coloured in a menacing red (in addition to the typical blue), with curved, moustache-like horns. Another new clan, called the Wind Traders, are also introduced in the trailer.

Jake Sully’s family and the Metkayina are seen joining forces to fight against the fire-hurling Ash People clan, who have allied with Colonel Miles Quaritch.

“Your goddess has no dominion here,” Varang says ominously, towards the end of the trailer.

As if that were not enough, Cameron ups the ante with Avatar-worthy fights inside cosmic volcanoes and impressive aerial battles, which point to an unforgettable experience at screens this December.

Although the film's runtime has not yet been announced, Cameron has reportedly said that the third installment will be “a bit longer” than the second, which had a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes. Two more installments remain, as per Cameron's grand plans for the franchise.

Along with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Oona Chaplin, the film's ensemble cast includes Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco and Dileep Rao, along with newly-cast with David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh.
