Preserve environment while developing tourism infra: Governor
Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, accompanied by First Lady Janaki Shukla, visited the scenic Mystic Village, Pukhri near Khajjiar and expressed deep appreciation for the area’s pristine natural beauty and vibrant cultural heritage. The village with its community-driven homestays has lately emerged as a model of sustainable tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the clean environment and breathtaking landscape of Pukhri village make it even more attractive than some of the well-known tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh. He lauded the efforts of the Chamba district administration and the Tourism Department in promoting rural tourism across the region.
Highlighting the growing need for responsible tourism, the Governor emphasised the importance of preserving the environment while developing tourism infrastructure. He noted that Pukhri offers excellent homestay facilities and a pure, health-friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and wellness seekers.
The Governor remarked that promoting tourism in such picturesque rural areas would not only strengthen the local economy but also showcase Himachal’s rich cultural traditions to national and international visitors. He stressed the need to improve road connectivity and transportation facilities to Mystic Village Khajjiar to attract more tourists in the future.
He assured that the concerns related to infrastructure and tourism development in the area would be brought to the attention of the Central Government and the Union Ministry of Forests. He also mentioned that relevant issues related to rural tourism must be highlighted through various platforms and brought to the notice of the state government as well.
The Governor also said that an MoU has been signed between International Centre of Responsible Tourism (ICRT) India Foundation and the Chamba District Administration during the opening cultural evening of the International Minjar Fair 2025. He said this partnership would help in the sustainable development of several unexplored tourist destinations in Chamba and lead to increased tourist footfall and economic upliftment for the locals through tourism-based activities.
Upon his arrival, the Governor was warmly welcomed by local residents in a traditional ceremony. A brief cultural program featuring folk performances in traditional attire was also presented by the villagers.
Local MLA Neeraj Nayar expressed his gratitude to the Governor for visiting this remote village in Chamba district. MLAs Dr. Hans Raj and D.S. Thakur, Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav, District Tourism Officer Rajeev Mishra were among others accompanying the Governor.
