SDM: Thunag ramps up relief, repairs after disaster

Thunag SDM Ramesh Kumar said relief and restoration efforts are progressing swiftly and on a war footing in the Seraj region of Mandi district, following the natural disaster that struck on June 30.

The calamity severely impacted basic infrastructure in the Thunag subdivision, including water supply, road connectivity and electricity. However, the administration, in coordination with multiple departments, has initiated temporary restoration across most affected areas.

“A total of 143 water supply schemes were damaged in the subdivision. Of these, 140 have been temporarily restored. Full water supply has resumed in 14 gram panchayats, while 22 panchayats are receiving partial supply. The Jal Shakti Department is actively working toward full reinstatement,” said SDM Kumar.

Road connectivity also suffered extensively, with 117 roads damaged across the Seraj region. So far, 36 roads have been reopened to vehicular traffic. The Public Works Department (PWD) has deployed a significant fleet of machinery to speed up restoration, including 13 L&T machines, 32 JCBs, 12 tippers/dumpers, two air compressors and two tractors.

Power supply has also been a top priority. Out of 202 damaged distribution transformers in the Seraj area, 187 have been fully restored under the Janjheli electricity subdivision. The remaining 15 are under repair. Additionally, all transformers in the Chhatri region, which comes under the Karsog Electrical Division, have been restored.

Apart from infrastructure restoration, relief distribution is in full swing. The administration, along with the concerned Patwari, visited the villages of Bhanwas, Ghasnu, Road, and Ghadyar in the Jarol region, distributing cash and essential supplies to all affected families.

Health teams also reached the relief camp at Raingaloo, where they conducted medical checkups and distributed medicines to disaster-hit residents.

SDM Kumar reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring complete recovery at the earliest. He commended the efforts of all departments and frontline workers involved in the ongoing operations.
