Rein in Opposition MPs, else NDA members will go after them: Shah to Speaker

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to censure opposition members who tried to interrupt the speech of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor. He said if this did not happen, the government too wouldn’t be able to check its MPs.

“When their speakers were talking, we were listening patiently. Many were peddling lies, which I will expose tomorrow. But today, we swallowed even their lies. But they cannot even hear the truth,” Shah said.

Shah said it did not behove the opposition leaders to “repeatedly needle the minister”. “As the Speaker, I think you should grant protection. Everyone knows how to needle others. Not that we cannot needle…. you should firmly tell them to stop, else we also won’t be able to stop our MPs," the Home Minister said.

Earlier, Shah slammed the opposition for disbelieving Jaishankar’s remarks that no US mediation happened in the India-Pakistan ceasefire. “It is owing to the opposition’s (Congress) trust in foreign powers over their own External Affairs Minister that they are sitting in the opposition and will continue to sit there for the next 20 years," he said.
