Jharkhand Tragedy: 18 Kanwariyas Killed, 10 Others Injured In Horrific Deoghar Road Crash; Videos Surface

Ranchi: At least 18 Kanwariyas were killed and many others seriously injured in a road accident in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Police said that the accident happened at around 4:30 am near the Jamuniya forest area, under the Mohanpur police station limits, when a bus carrying Kanwariyas collided head-on with a truck transporting gas cylinders. Several other devotees sustained serious injuries under the impact of the crash.

Inspector General of Dumka Zone, Shailendra Kumar Sinha said that the ill-fated bus was a 32-seater carrying devotees participating in the Shravan Kanwar Yatra. He said the number of casualties could rise as many of the injured were in a serious condition. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals and primary health centres for quick treatment.

Emergency teams  have been alerted as the district administration is supervising the rescue and medical operation.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey said, “In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the holy month of Shravan, 18 devotees lost their lives in a road accident involving a bus and a truck. May Baba Baidyanath grant strength to their families to endure this sorrow.”

The accident took place on a day when over three lakh pilgrims had gathered at the Babadham temple in Deoghar, marking the third Somwari of the Shravan month. The cause of road mishap could not be ascertained immediately.
