Nawada & Trichy Flooded: Homes Submerged, Streets Become Rivers As Water Crisis Deepens
Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across Nawada in Bihar and Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu, submerging homes, turning streets into streams, and forcing residents to seek shelter on rooftops. In Nawada, localities are completely inundated. Entire neighborhoods are waterlogged, and drainage systems have collapsed, leaving people trapped inside their homes.Residents describe scenes of despair — gullies have turned into nalas, water flow so strong it seemed determined to wash everything away. "Ghar ke charo taraf sirf pani hi pani hai," a resident said, as families waited for relief or rescue. In low-lying areas, people were seen climbing onto roofs just to stay safe.Meanwhile in Trichy, authorities released excess water from the Mettur Dam into the Kaveri River, leading to a surge downstream. The Mukombu dam area was visibly flooded, with strong currents flowing rapidly across farmlands and nearby roads. Local villagers were put on alert, and movement across certain bridges has been restricted. Both regions now face mounting challenges — from waterborne diseases to infrastructure breakdown. Emergency teams have been deployed, but for many, relief remains a distant hope.
