No Malayalam release for 'Kaantha'? Dulquer Salmaan's film to release only in Tamil and Telugu

Dulquer Salmaan's Kaantha became a much-anticipated property after the teaser launch on Monday. We now hear that the film won't have a Malayalam release, and will only release in the Tamil and Telugu languages. Dulquer plays an actor in the film who is said to be inspired by the life of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, the first superstar of Tamil cinema.

The Tamil-only release isn't surprising given that another Dulquer-starrer Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, was released only in Tamil, aside from a Telugu-dubbed version.

The newly reased teaser once again proved that the actor is a natural fit for period epics, Dulquer — in the film written and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj —  plays... well, an actor who seems to have a strained relationship with a filmmaker played by Samuthirakani. As expected from a cinematographer of his calibre, the teaser promises stunning frames, courtesy of Dani Sanchez Lopez, who also shot Dulquer's Mahanati and Daggubati's Virata Parvam.

On his character in the film, Dulquer had earlier said: "I got to play a timeless role in a timeless story. I couldn’t ask for a bigger gift to celebrate my 13 years in the industry. Grateful to the entire team of #Kaantha and to the wonderful audiences who have given me all the love and encouragement any actor would dream of!"

Dulquer Salmaan is joined in the cast by actors Rana Daggubati, Bhagyashri Borse, and Samuthirakani, among others.

It is bankrolled by Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media and Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films in association with Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese.

Tha. Ramalingam, the art director of Sarpatta Parambarai, Karnan and Captain Miller, is part of the technical team. Jhanu Chanthar is the composer and Lewellyn Anthony Gonsalves is in charge of the editing.

Dulquer is coming off the massive pan-Indian success of his Telugu outing Lucky Baskhar, directed by Venky Atluri. Meenakshi Chaudhary, Tinnu Anand, P. Sai Kumar, Ramki, Raghu Babu, Sarvadaman D. Banerjee, Sachin Khedekar and Y. Kasi Viswanath.
