Story about the origin

There is an interesting story about the origin of the temple. It is said that earlier there used to be sand dunes at this place. One day a cow arrived at this place while grazing and started releasing milk on its own. Upon witnessing this remarkable event, people began excavating the site.

During the excavation, a Shivling appeared, which was established as Gopeshwar Mahadev. Maharaja Dungar Singh later established Bhuteshwar Mahadev. Since then, this place has been known for the presence of two Mahadev.

Another unique thing about Gopeshwar Mahadev temple is that there are two statues of Ganesha and Nandi here. Rarely do people witness this unusual sight. Temples of Mata Parvati, Bhairuji, and other deities are also built in the temple complex, where devotees come to worship.

The beauty of this temple is worth seeing during the month of Shravan. Every year a big fair is held here during Shravan, in which not only devotees from Bikaner city but also from nearby villages and far-flung areas participate in large numbers.

Special Rudrabhishek, Shringar, and Mahaarati are organised every Monday throughout the month. The chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” resonating in the temple premises make the atmosphere devotional.

Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple is not only a religious place but also a symbol of faith, belief, and the cultural heritage of the people of Bikaner.
